Disney Channel Superstar, Demi Lovato, returns to release her single Skyscraper in the UK.
After being released in the US shortly after her very public personal battles, Lovato clearly relates to the subject, with it being reported the singer got ‘extremely overwhelmed’ when she recorded it back in 2010. The song represents the journey in which she has been through making it a raw but beautiful listen.
The ballad represents strength and self belief and Lovato’s vocals reinforce this. It begins soft with a single piano accompanying the breathy vocals, the emotion clear from early recordings. The song enfolds into a heavy powerful percussion which sends shivers down the spine.
Lovato made her name from the Disney Channel but this should not be used against her. Along with Cyrus and Gomez, Demi has the range and clout to challenge any other artist in the world. This talent is clearer in Skyscraper than any other previous release, and hopefully crowns her a true popstar.
The video for the tune is equally as beautiful and raw. Looking more mature than her 19 years, it sees gorgeous Lovato alone on a deserted sandy road and features many personal, emotive close up shots. As the song develops a black fabric is seen surrounding her, representing her demons from her past taking over. But, after walking over glass, the black fabric disappears, ultimately showing the singer’s strength.
The song is not only uplifting but inspiring, unlike anything around at the moment. Skyscraper went Gold in the US peaking at #10 in the Billboard Hot 100 and was released in the UK on February 26th, 2012. It has been taken from her upcoming album, Unbroken, which is released in the UK on March 5th, 2012.
